Broken Arrow, Tulsa County, Oklahoma

My source of Polish parishes lists St. Anne Church in Broken Arrow of Tulsa County, Oklahoma as a Polish parish. The church's roots date to 1932 and was literally moved to Broken Arrow. The first person baptized in the parish was Emil Voleskey in 1936. While that looks like an anglicized Slavic name, I didn't find others in a quick scan of the 1940 US Census. The church's Polish ties begin in 1948 when Polish Capuchin priests began serving at the parish. Many of them were survivors of Nazi concentration camps and a repressive Communist government in Poland. It could be that other Poles followed the priests to Broken Arrow as well. The history of this church recounts anti-Catholic feelings and racism that had to be dealt with.
